Project Overview

The 1978 Grand Prix du Canada logo, created by Rolf Harder, was used during the event’s first time being held in Montréal at the Ile Notre-Dame Circuit. The event is marked by its victor: Gilles Villeneuve, who still holds the record as the only Canadian to win the Grand Prix. This logo animation pays homage to the historical significance of this event in Canadian sports history by incorporating the voices of the commentators announcing Villeneuve's win.

Reflection

This logo animation is packed with symbolism which emphasizes the significance of the event. The colour of each car, along with their matching motion blurs, brings vibrance and energy to the animation as they round the track’s hairpin turn. The red Ferrari is the first to cross the finish line, paying homage to Gilles Villeneuve’s victory as the first Canadian to win the Canadian Grand Prix. This moment of celebration is furthered by the roar of the crowd as the cars pull the checkered flag into place and the sounds of sports broadcasters remark at Villaneuve’s victory. The race’s heritage is emphasized by incorporating TV static and RGB separation, which pairs with the broadcaster's commentary to create a vintage appeal and add texture to the final logo presentation.
